Introduction

The Links module of Site@School has the following features:

2. Connecting the module to a page

Before you can use the Links module, it has to be connected to a page on the site or the Protected Area.
Consult the Module manager chapter on how to connect the module to a page.

3. Managing the links module

The following items can be managed in the links module:

3.1 The opening screen of the links module

When you have added a link page in the page manager (see Module manager on how to do this, go to the Module manager and open the Links module. You will see:

Explanation:

  1. Links: The default opening page.
  2. Proposed links: Click to open the proposed links page.
  3. Add link page: Click to add a link page.
  4. Add link: Click to add a link on a link page.
  5. Go back: To return to the previous page.

3.2 Creating a links page

Click on the 'Add link page' link. You will see:

Explanation:
  1. Page name: Here you enter the name of the page you have made with the page manager. Be sure to use exactly the same name as the page name. As example we use here 'Links for teachers' (omit the quotes).
  2. Owner email address: Enter a valid email address of the person who will receive the email when setting the 'Propose link button?' option below to 'Yes'.
  3. Introduction text links module: Here you can make an introduction text which will be visible on the page. You can use HTML tags to markup the text.
  4. Number of links per line: You can have more links on a line, depending on your site. Experiment with the number of links on a line.
  5. Links icon: Specifies the path to the links icon. Default the starnet/modules/sn_links/link.gif icon is given which is delivered with the module. You can upload your own link icon with the file manager and the path will be something like: starnet/media/links/my_link.gif.
  6. Propose link button? (Y/N): When you want a propose links button on the links page, set this option to Yes. Visitors can propose a link and the links page owner will receive an e-mail with the proposed link.
  7. Show separate link? See for an example with and without a separate link :

  8. Introduction text propose links (HTML code): Here you can make an introduction text which will be visible when a visitor will enter the propose a link screen.
  9. Go back: To return to the previous page.
  10. Save: To save your work and return to the previous page.

When you have filled in the items and clicked 'Save' you will see:

Explanation:

  1. Trashcan icon: To delete a links page.
  2. Edit icon: Here you can edit the properties of a link page, see 3.2 Creating a links page for the properties you can change.
  3. Page name: To connect this link page to a page on your site be sure to make the page name equal.
  4. Number of proposed links: Here you can see if there are proposed links, the need to be approved by the module owner.

The 'Links for teachers' page is added.
In the next section we will add some links.

3.3 Adding links to a page

When you click on 'Add link', you will see:

Explanation:
  1. Category: You can put links into categories, every category will be shown on your school site as a separate section on the link page.
  2. Title: The title of the link.
  3. Url: URL of the link.
  4. Description: Description of the link.
  5. Order: Used for the sorting of the links within a category, specify a number (1,2,3 etc.).
  6. Page title: Select a link page from the dropdown menu.
  7. Go back: To return to the previous page.
  8. Save: To save the link information.

3.4 Manage proposed links

When you click on 'Proposed links', you will see:

Explanation:

  1. Trashcan icon: To delete the link.
  2. Edit icon: Here you can edit the properties of a link, see 3.2 Creating a links page for the properties you can change.
  3. Link name: See below.
  4. Go back: To return to the previous page.
When you click on the link name, you will enter the edit window:

When you want to show the link on you site you need to set the 'Publish proposed link?' to Yes and press 'save'. You can of course change other properties as well.

4. Your links module on the site

When you go to your links module page on your school site, you will see:

When a visitor presses the 'Propose a link' button, the following screen will be seen:

  1. Title: Type the title you propose for the link.
  2. Url: The URL link itself
  3. Description: The description of the link.
  4. Name: Name of the person proposing the link.
  5. Email address: Email address of the person proposing the link.
  6. Send: To send the information to the person who 'owns' the module, he will receive an email as confirmation and can approve the link, see 3.4 Manage proposed links.
